MONUMENT TO RELIGIOUS FREEDOM War With Japan Affects Far Eastern Jews LONDON (.IPS)—The out break of hostilities between the United States and Japan has al¬ ready tragically affected Jews In the Far East. Immediately af¬ ter the occupation of the Inter¬ national Zone In Shanghai, Jap¬ anese authorities arrested many Jewish refugees there, charging them with "sabotage" and es- pionage against Japan for the United States and Great Brit¬ ain, according to German radio stations. There are between 15,- 000 and 20,000 Jewish refugees In Shanghai. The Swedish press reported that the German Government had demanded tiiat Nippon turn over to the Gestapo a number of G e r m a n-Jewish refugees in Shanghai who played an import¬ ant role in the German anti-Nazi movement and escaped from the Reich t)efore the Gestapo could reach them. Most of the Jewish refugees In Shanghai are from Germany and [ many of them came to this port city from Poland after the Nazi invasion. Lazarus Sisterhoofl and the Tifereth Israel Sisterhood. In the present crisis it is im¬ perative that .lewish women educate themselves for civilian defense and for the protection of our country. Principal speakers will be Gov. Paul V. McNutt, Federal Security Administrator, and Henry Monsky, president of B'nai B'rith. Sidney G. Kus- worm, chairman of the B'nal B'rith Americanism Commission, will preside. The program will be broadcast over WIP and the coast-to-coast network of the Mu¬ tual Broadcasting System from 10:15 to 10:30 P. M., Eastern fitandard Time. Columbus Jewry Invited To Ezras Noshim Dinner Temple Tifereth tsrael, 1354 E> Broad St will conduct a special Memorial Service in memory of the late I. H. Schlezlnger, one of the founders and guiding spirits of this conservative synagogue in the Columbus Jewish com¬ munity, this Sunday (tomor¬ row) Dec. 14th, at 2:30 p. m. In the forty years of the Con¬ gregation's existence, there has been no other Individual who had contributed either financial¬ ly or spirtuaily toward the wel¬ fare and the growth of Temple Tifereth Israel as did the .late I. H. Schlezlnger. The deceas¬ ed leader was active in the af¬ fairs of the congregation from Dec. 4, 1901 when the synagogue was first chartered, to the last day of his life, Sunday, January 26, 1941. Considering the Invaluable service which I. H. Schlezlnger had rendered during his lifetime, the Congregation, b\ unanimous approval voted to dedicate the Social Hall to his memory. The chairman of the Dedica¬ tion Committee Is Herman M Katz who has devoted much of Arrangements have been com¬ pleted for the Annual Dinner of the Ezras Noshim Society which will be held in the social hall of the Agudath Achlm synagogue this Sunday evening, Dec. 14, at 6 o'clock Mr. Allan Tarshish will be the Master of Ceremonies for the oc¬ casion and Is to be assisted by Mr. Arthur Goldberg and Mr. J.
