Dimensions A Publication of Tiffin-Seneca Public Library www.tiffinsenecalibrary.org January. 2015 A Special 2015 Note from the Director "If I have seen further, it is by standing on the shoulders of giants. " - Sir Isaac Newton So, how's the view from where you're standing? For most of us, it's more limited than we would like. In this world, the path ahead is rarely clear. Alone, we can see only by the light of our own backgrounds, experiences, and understanding. Unless you happen to know we to find some friendly giants willing to raise you up and help you see. At Tiffin-Seneca Public Library, our shelves are full of giants. We've collected towering work and wisdom from thousands of authors, artists, and filmmakers, and each title holds a wealth of understanding and experience waiting to become yours. Do you wonder what it takes to face extreme environments? Let Sebastian Junger sail you into The Perfect Storm or John Krakauer take you Into Thin Air. Do you yearn for a simpler life? Dee Williams shares the joys and the burdens of minimalist living in The Big Tiny. Are you unsure how to stand up for what's right even when everyone else says it's wrong? So was a kid named Huckleberry Finn. That was 130 years ago, but he's still willing to show you the way. At its core, the library will always be about using stories—whether fiction or nonfiction, from a book or on a screen—to connect our patrons to other minds. We want to offer you the wisdom of the past and the promise of the present. Our passion is enlarging your life. And our wish is simply this: That every time you walk through our doors, your path would become more clear. Welcome to the T-SPL Team! It was a rough couple of months last year, with the retirements of two key staff members at the Library. But after a long, hard search, T-SPL is happy to announce the arrival of two new staff members. Katy Higgs has been named the newest Adult Services Librarian and is ready to take on the challenge of answering any and all questions patrons might have. She will also be helping to plan adult programs and events. Miss Higgs said, "I am looking forward to participating in community events and leading library programs. I'm hoping to kick off a cookbook club in the near future." | She is originally from Cleveland, but for ten years, travelled overseas with her parents as they worked around the world. Miss Higgs attended school in Florida and obtained her MLS degree from the University of South Florida. She has worked in an elementary school setting, a teen setting and is now excited to work in an adult services position. Miss Higgs's favorite book of all time? "Pride and Prejudice." And, we'd like to welcome Tami Frasier, who has been named T-SPL's Housekeeper. Mrs. Frasier definitely has an eye for detail as she keeps the Library in tip-top shape for both patrons and staff. Mrs. Frasier was bom in Fremont and has lived "all over." In fact, she just moved back to the Tiffin area, after living in Myrtle Beach for three years. She has a husband and two daughters, ages 11 and 12, who go to Tiffin City Schools.; Mrs. Fraiser says, "I like working. I like doing my job. I feeling like I'm doing something nice for everybody. And, I really enjoy the people I work with." Her favorite book is the classic "The Giving Tree" by Dr. Seuss and her favorite movies are "Despicable Me 1 and 2." Welcome, ladies, to the T- SPL team. We are so happy to have you with us. Please feel free to stop by and say hello to Tami and Katy!
