JACOB TOWNHUND, Thr original discoverer of the Genuine Town tend Sarsaparilla OLD Dr. Town send Is now about 70 years uf age, and has long been known as the Author and Discoverer of the Genuine Original "Townsend Sarsaparilla" Being poor, he was compel led to limit its manufacture, by which means it has been kept out of market, and the sales circumscribed to those only who had proved its worth, and known its value. It had reached the ears of many, nevertheless, as those persons who had been healed ol sore diseases, and saved from death, proclaimed its wonderful cures; it relaxes strictures and tightness, removes all obstructions and invigorates the entire nervous system. Is not this then the Medicine you pre-eminently need 1 But can any of these things be said of 8. I '. Townsend's inferior article i This young man's liquid is not to be mm pared with the old Doctor's, because of one grand fact that the one Is incapable of deterioration, and never noSt, while the other does i souring, fermenting, and blowing the hotties containing it into fragments : the sour, acid liquid exploding, and damaging other goods I Must not this horrible compound be poisonous to the system f What I tmtacfd into a system idreiuly diseased with acid ; What causes Dispcpaia but acid t Do we not all know that when food sours In our stomachs, what mischief it produces? tlanilencc, heartburn, palpitation ot the heart, liver complaint, diarrhoea, dysentery, colic, and corruption of the blood? What is Scrofula but an acid humor in the body i What produces all the humors which bring on Eruptions of the Skin, Scald Head, Bait Rhcuin, Erysipelas, white Swellings, Fevor Sores, and all ulcerations Internal and external i It Is nothing under heaven hut an acid sub stance, which sours, and thus spoils all the ttuids ot the body, more or less. VY hat causes Itbeumatlsin but a sour and acid ttuid which insinuates itself between tho joints and elsewhere, irritating end Inflaming the delicate tissues upon which it acts I So ol nervous diseases, of impurity of the blood, of deranged circulation, and nearly all the ailments which afflict human nature . Now in it not horriblo to make and sell, and infinitely worse to use this Souring, Fermenting, Acid " Compound of S. P. Towns-end, and yet be would fain have it understood that Old Dr. Jacob Townsed s Genuine Original Sarsaparilla, is an imitation of his nferior preparation f I Heaven forbid that we should deal in an article which would bear the most distant resemblance to S. P. Townsend's article We wish it understood, because it is the absolute truth, that S. P. Townsend's article and Old Dr. Jacob Townsend's Sarsaparilla are heaven-wide apart, and infinitely dissimilar; that they are unlike in every particular, having not onn single thing in common. Aa a. P. TownsoRtl la no doctor, and never was, is no chemist, no pharmaceutist knows no more of medicine or disease than any other common, unscientific, unprofessional man, what guarantee can the public have that they are receiving a genuine scientific medicine, containing all the virtues of the articles used In preparing it, and which are Incapable of changes which might render them the Agents of Disease instead of health ? Since the abovu was put in type the following fact has come to ourkuowledge; which is truly tyled Tbe Triumph of Justice The War Ended! S. P Townsend abandoned the field Old Dr. Jcuoh Townsend tin dicaled by the People S. P. Townsend has at last given up the manufacture of any more Sarsaparilla, having disposed of Bis business lo some strangers. Thus his claims to Originality and other pretensions fall to the ground. He voluntarily abandons them, in thus evading the issue before the public, by disposing of his trade. The fact that he was no physician, no chemist, the occupation ot whose life was a worker on Railroads, canals, chopping wood, swings, dock sticks, Ac, Ac. Tha fact, also, that his article became notorious for its Souring, Fermenting and Bursting the Rot-ties, thereby deceiving and injuring the sick, and destroying goods, demonstrates beyond all doubt the fallacy of his pretensions, and the baseless fabric ol his claims. Hereafter it is to be sent out to the people by some Strangers, yet bearing the naino of S. P. Townsend. We have been informed that these Strangers intend to print on the labels the name of somo Chemist, in order to redeem, if possible its bad character of Souring and Fermenting. Let the people fully understand that no Revarapiug, no new botching, no prefixing of Chemist's names or any other folly will redeem S. P. Townsend's souring compound from public odium, unless it Is made entirely different from its present character and il they do this, it will become another article of .Sarsaparilla. and they might as well give il another name first as last It should then be called tho "Stranger's :nrsaparilla," and not S P. Townend's. But If thorn is no alteration, the people may still expect the same old Souring, Fermcntiniz, Root Beer stuff. We have felt it a duty to inform the public of the true position ot this matter, that Old Doctor Jacob Townsend's Harsaparilla may not be confounded with this souring article. In conclusion we would remark that some months ago S. P. Townsend left his old stand in Fulton st., a first rate store, and tat himself down only a few doors below us, in Nauasau st., the motiveiand objects ot wnlcu we leave others u judge. We understand these Strangers, who have taken up H. P.'s business, Intend to remain there Suoh conduct needs no comment. We shall move from Nassau street in the Spring, and we will then see If these Strangers follow ut aa S. P. did.
