From the New York Tribune. THE ROTHSCHILD FAMILY. DEATH OF BARON SALOMON Concluded. The Rothschilds are, however, unquestionably, the greatest curso to European liberty. They propped up all the little despots of Germany, helped on Austria in her infamous career, and the downfall of the House would be hailed with delight by all the European people. The prt-sent Sir Robert Peel but expressed the popular feeling in his savage assault upon the family, though it was said in the House of Commons at the time to have been insti gated by some usurious reminiscences. Like most Jews, they haye no feelinor for anything but money, for any person but their own kindred; and to have suggested to olu Meyer Kolhschild, that m becominjr vhe pet Jew of the Hessian Prince who had made his money out of American blood he would stain his name, would set the whole tribe in laughter and make gay the very stones upon iho Ghetto. " I tsaron James opened the establishment in rans in 181o, which balomon subse quently joined. The details of this mono tonous money life offer few materials of interest. James was the best of the tribe, a man of wisdom, and good sense, and, for Jew, 01 rather liberal chanty, havinp- louuaed a school lor poor children of his persuasion and contributed to many charitable initutions. Salomon's charities were ostentatious. In England, the three present represent atives ot the house Barons Lionel and Meyer and Sir Anthony Rothschild live in that sumptuous solitude and domestic magnificence with which the Jews so deep ly delight to surround themselves, like some few of the Cnrisiian Israelites in our own paternal avenue. Wilh the excep tion of Sir Anthony, who is a seniel sensualist and gourmand, they extend but little hospitality; and wrap iheinselves up in Sfllish indulgence. When, however, they do receive, it is wilh an oriental gor-geousness, and tbe nuiires de cuision of 00 li Sir Anthony and Baron Lionel are among the most cunning chefs in Europe. ihu residence ot one in urosvenor-place and of theotherin Piccadilly, next Apsley uoure, the town paiuce ot the Uuke ot Wellington, are furnished with an alTLi enco of splendor, and their ordinary daily life is surrounded, like that of all th weal- winks mid signs of tbe assurs-hy who thy Jews, with every appliance of luxury, recognize the brood and soaie of their pour indeed, one of the banquets giveti by Ba- co-religionists, who watch their exit to boron Rothschild at his country villa equaled l'C't alms, gather about them u circle of ea-anything ever told in siory of the luscious gr fellow beggars, when in some dirty U. denial leasts, it was in Summer, and the banquet was served in the beautiful conservatory, music flouted around and art lent us loVrly light everywhere. The Sevres on which dessert wus served con tained each a different picture of rare ar tistic excellence, which might have been dreamt bv Veronese or Claud Lorraine. The only amusement in which the Roibschilds indulge is bunting. Old An thony is gouiy and chuckles at L'onel and Mever for galloping round the fi.-lds af ter a fox." But the two brothers have a box ut Mentmore, about, forty miles fiom London 011 the North-Western Rail, where they keep a splendid stud and a pack of buck hounds, and the swells ot the City and stock exchange may be seen on morns of cloudy sky and southerly wind, with scarlet tops and cigar, flying in thtir Han-sous to the North-Western Station to have a day with the Baron's hounds. Hunting has become quite a passion in London wuh the youth of tho Exchange. It is consid ered "slow not to be out at least once a week, and for the convenience of those who cannot aflbrd to keep a nag a slashing shop has been opened, which is well supplied with Buckingham mud, with which counterfeit hunters are splashed.and then loll into tho city club, with a "such a run old lellow as we had; one ot these genl Mr. nts sat for Puncho 8 pleasant portraits ol Briggs. Meyer Rothschild can just about keep his place with tbe houuds, but Lionel would bd pounced by a three-foo fence. Neither do the family confine their pas' sion for horse-flesh to the hunting field. They embarked upon the turf and for one or two years they spared no expense to carry away its "blue ribbon" by winning a IJerby. It is possible they would have succeeded tho nice of TJ, had not "Ores tes," who carried the fortunes of the House, been unfairly dealt with the night before the running, and a foul grain or two playfully introduced into his corn. This false play sickened the Rothschilds of the turf, and, we believe, they have not now any horses in training. The efforts made in the past few years to crown the I empleof Universal v reedom by the emancipation of tho Jews, and to wipe away the last . persecuting blot from the statue book of England, induced them to enter also on that political arena, against which the old taiher especially warned them. "I wish my children," ho was . . ... i,- nn,t ,u v,.... hwuin iu o"y, uuo iijiug uuu iuq ucai ot that. Let my son bo the best brewer or best baker, and to be so he must bo brewer or a baker and no more." But tho Rothschilds do not possess that element which Danton says is the fir3t, second and third secret of success, daring, " iandace, taumours 1 audace. Nor have they even liberality. Many men of very small means subscribed mure than the Rothechilds to the liberal fund at the last t'leciiop, though the freedom of their race whs in the scale. 1 he emancipation of the Jews appears just as distant hs the day on which London emphatically called out in its tuvor by returning as its re pre sentative the leading Israelite. But the torpid state of the question is mainly due to the apathy of the Jews themselves, and the absence of noble impuUe. Brau Rothschild appeurs 10 be quite satisfied with' hi: position under me gallery as "M .P. unattached," and for the rest.they care little for those rights which are dear to treemen as long as they are allowed "to dishcount von little bill" at eighty or a hundred per cent. The wife of Lionel, whom we ; nave before described, is the ablest politician of the family, takes eager interest in all party questions, and speaks with enthusiastic rapture of the glories of her race. Nor have we ever-seen such bright, beautiful children as the little Hebrews she has presented to her lord. To see the Rothschilds, however, in all their glory one must visit the Exchanges This applies only to Frankfort, Paris and London houses. In Vienna and Naples the Exchanges aro only frequented b) the very lowest class of "wild animals" But to sea the old Baron Anslem or Baron James go to 'Change, amid, men who on every side dofled hat and bowed with cringing smile, would have convinced the veriest optimist that honor to Mammon had not vet departed from tho earth Baron James always looked the gentle man, and even 111 the greatest excitement on the Bourse, when he stood surrounded by hundreds of faisetirs and broker?, a courtly smile ever slavered over his omin ously smooth fuce. Baron Anslem with his noble head of white hair looked very imposing from a distance, but he was so illiterate and so coarse as to make H a ser vice of disgust to approach him. The London Rothchilds have their station be hind the statue of the Q,ueen, near tho en trance which leads to the Exchange-place. Thither Lionel and Sir Anthony are to be seen twice a week, 011 Thursdays and Fridays, at about 2i, P. M., whenbill-exchange is taking place, languidly approaching, supported generally by some pet broker, and leaning towards the column at the right hand from the entrance. The centlemen who lean on the adjoininir columns are Mr. Heath, of the firm of Heath, Furso & Co., Mr. Bates, of Barings, and Mr. Doxat. To see the conflict amonr the bill and stock brokers as to who shall first caich Lionel's eye or far is intensely amusing. While at the Stock Exchange the thrice-honored bull or buur who has been seen in converse with the Baron, is looked up to with veneration and probably makes sixteenth per cent out of the lucky incident. Afitr having stood in this position for about an hour, Baron Lio-onel wends his way home in the saaie languid altitude, leaning on the arm ot Sir Anthony or his uncle, Mr. Cohen, who is the principle bill-broker of the house. As they turn from the Ex Change into buct.lersbury, many it re' th- ,"ignl oen in nounasuitcn, iwu.-es relates nexpressible pr.do that the Baron give him a sixpence. The office of the firm in New Court is inclosed in a large yard, which wears much the appearance uf a garden. , About fifteen clerks are in the mum office, to which several private rooms are attached, one of them being devoted to Consular affair j, the 13, iron being the Aus trian Consul. Hero, at about eleven, the Slock Exchange men, a class half snob and half Jew, make thoirappeorance, and with gi Ssip and swagger, and flattery and fawn- i iff, und shaving, tho business ut the day runs on until about four, when the Lavia- thuns may be seen driving to their sumptuous homes, either in their own equipage, or occasionally, to affect simplicity in a Hanson cab. Baron Jame's idea of extending the shipping and commission business of the house led mm to send his son to this coun try, and ho passed somo time inNew-Orleans without accomplishing anything. Mr. Belmont, who was their clerk here, gave but little satisfaction, and Mr. Hanau, who was their clerk: at Aew-urleans, bad been dismissed. Indeed the Rothschilds, by confining themselves to proteges and poor relations for agents, are subjecting themselves to great difficulties. Mr. Bel mont is a native ot schonberg, when he translates into t rench tor purposes ol ele eance, havmjr, as is the custom wuh ma ny Jews, adopted the name ol the village where he was born. Schonberg is in the vicinity cf Alzey, a linle country town between Mayence and Kaiserluutem, and ihe Rabbi of Alzey was an uucle of Mr, Schonberg, or Belmont, as he here calls himself. I he Kubbrs wife was a distant relative of Baron Anslem, and from the fact of her being a fine Jewess, and liaron Anslem admiring naturally her beauty, the malicious people of Alzey, Kasicrlau-tern aud even of Frankfort and Maonce, sprend a report, tho echo of which may nave traveled nere, mat mere was a ien- r tie between young Schonberg and the old Baron. But it was a mere piece of earrulous cossip without the smallest foun diition. The fact of the young man being taker into Rothschilds office aroso from the distant relationship the same motive which sent Hanau to New Orleans. But i.i thus selecting young men according to accident of birth instead of merit, the sad dest mistakes are dailytaking place. Tho incapacity of their special agents over the world is becoming a matter ol notoriety to all who are brought in contact with them, but perhaps tho strongest mark of this feelinsr was exhibited when Air. uav idson, their agent, was returned to them under protest by the late Czar Nicholas. The reason alleged was that he was a Jew, hut Baron Hieglitz himself, who with his Hopes of Amsterdam transacted all itus- sian loans, being a Jew, the fact can only be accounted fur by the repulsive individ uality of the man and tho aversion in which the Uothschilds are held in So.
