Perhaps hereafter it may lie worth ! while to give all the document nt full length. For the present wo coadense into i a fair abstract. The starting point seems to have been the speech of Mr. Jewett, when lie was ; serenaded the niht after hi nomination, j In that Kpecch he explained to the hand and the newspaper reporters present, how much holier than hi com pet i lorn he had lieen, uiing the following language : You have in the result of thin Convention, evidence that fair, frank and bold nienmiron will prevail in thin district, and not the efforts and tricks of a few (It-signing men, who make it their buniuei'B. Thii fair, frank and hold statement, from the late Rcpre-cntativo of Muskingum, seems to have excited, consider-able indignation. Van Trump llrst demands to know whether he Is to he counted one of these "designing men," who make it a business to win by trickery in nominating convention, Mr. Jewett exnluini. Mr. Van Trump !h not tlio man, and the language "cannot in tlio remotest degree he construed" as applying to him. Hays Mr. Jewett: "I have no reason to Com plain juf the candidate, not wident of this county" &c. That narrow the circle of inquiry, ma terially. The dei-igntn;-; trlckntoM are Franklin county nun. Thompson, gradually breaks upon us, like Chittenden's aurora borcalis, and w. feel to say with Uingham, Thou art the man! Having now "go hi 'iam "' Jewett deals Uingham a fearful blow, ii. recalling to him that little bargain at Cleveland, by which Jno. 0. secured his own bacon, and entered a wedge to divide Franklin county for his own purposes. Mr, Jewett exponcs tho strategy of honest John O., fully. Ho complains that repeated messengers sent by lumxclf to Mr. Bingham, In order to defeat Thompson's strategy, returned to him without the olive branch, having found no rest for the sole of their feet. Then comes Hiughani in reply. He has hesitated to reply, because of the damage to tho harmony of the party in the present campaign, hut feels that In honor there Is no escape. lie then gives hisvermon of the Cleveland bargain with Thompson, h, Ac., deferring other matters to "a more convenient season," when the "chawing up" of Jewett will not endanger tho success of (he Democratic party. I The Democratic majority for Governor In 1 1870 was 2150, and in 1871, on the call for tho Convention, 2850, so that tho change by comparison with 1871, when the enfranchised Confederates voted for the first time, will be from eight to nine thonsand against the regular Democracy. The fate of the Constitution is in doubt. The largo majorities against it in this part of the State are neutralized by the counties cast of tho mountains, which go olid heavily for Jacob and ratification. In tho tuirty.threo counties heard from there is a majority against the Constitution of about one thousand.
