The collaborative effort of the four organizations will culminate in the 11th annual Diamante Awards Program on Saturday, Oct. 7\ in The University of Toledo's Student Union Auditorium. "We're proud to partner with these organizations in order to further enhance the quality of educational opportunities and experiences for Latino youth," said William Decatur, interim president of The University of Toledo. "As an urban, student-centered university, we believe that each student brings something special and unique to The University of Toledo. We recognize, respect and celebrate our diversity because it makes us who we are." In addition to raising funds for scholarships, the Diamante Awards Program will also recognize the contributions of seven outstanding northwest Ohio Latino leaders. "As I review the accomplishments of the Latino community throughout northwest Ohio, and especially at Bowling Green State University, I am proud that we are able to be a part of the celebration of these achievements," said Dr. Sidney A. Ribeau, president of Bowling Green State University. "The Diamante Awards exemplify BGSU's commitment to both leadership, civility and diversity and certainly reinforce our vision of serving the diverse and multicultural communities of Ohio, the United States and the world," he said. The Diamante Awards were established in 1989 by IMAGE of Northwest Ohio, a Hispanic community advocacy organization. According to Margarita De Leon, founder of IMAGE of Northwest Ohio, the two northwest Ohio universities have been involved with the event from its beginning. "Since the inception of the Diamante Awards over 11 years ago, the two universities have always been strong supporters," said DeLeon. She is confident that the newly formed partnership will lead to long-term success. -more- A collaboration between IMAGE of Northwest Ohio, The University of Toledo and Bowling Green State University with generous support from Mercy Health Partners
