Heights School Board Plans
to Cat Administrative Costs
In a move to cut costs, the
Cleveland Heights - University
Heights Board of Education
plans to launch a full-scale review of the school system's
administrative organization.
Eliminating the position of
assistant superintendent of ed-
ication, a post recently va-
:ated by Dr. James F. Gray,
md consolidating the duties
)f other addministrative personnel, would save the school
system $35,000 to $50,000 a
year according to board member Edward D. Friedman.
Friedman, who suggested
the review, said that school
enrollment in the district had
nearly reached a peak. He
said the board's long-range
building plans were now being wrapped up and that the
superintendent, Dr. Theos I.
Anderson, was surrounded by
a competent administrative
staff.
IN VIEW OF these facts,
Friedman continued, he saw
no reason to fill the post vacated by Gray—at least not
until completion of the review.
Gray's duties, Friedman
said, could be performed by
Dr. Anderson.
Dr. Anderson said he was
in "perfect agreement" with
Friedman, and that this was
the logical time for such a
review.
Sigmund A. Davidson, ad
ministrative assistant to Anderson, is expected to retire in
two years. Friedman suggested that Richard P. Jones,
the present clerk - treasurer
should assume Davidson's financial chores now, preparing
to absorb all the assistant's
duties when he leaves.
GRAY'S STAFF, Friedman
said, should be consolidated
with the system's general
clerical staff.
The other four board members voted with Friedman to
I approve his proposal for a
j re view.
