A Stark county young man, on the occasion of his marriage, opened his Delivered by Mrs. SI. Kline, sit Van Wert, march 9. Our subject for this evening is founded on the 23d Psalm, 4th Verse: "Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fearpo evil; for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me." Under this heading the process of death will be explained. To explain what is given us to do, it is necessary to divide our subject into different parts. The first part,' then, consisting of an explanation of the valley of the shadow of death. David, in making this exclamation, did not think of the real death; he had reference to his gloomy and preplexing conditions. Encompassed by his many enemies, and also by the sombre shades that hovered over his soul and spirit, after various offences of which many are charged to his account, he was in distress; he was in the shaded valley; he was helpless.,' Yon have all of you realized' that condition;, for it is not only In being prepared for the process of death, that you find yourselves therein in the valley of the shadow of death but whenever you are called upon to pass through an ordeal, or are surrounded with the shades of perplexity and with conditions over which yon have no control, where you feel your entire dependence upon God your Creator and Redeemer; where you realize your helplessness, and feel that you must call on the Merciful God if you wish to conquer. Well, David was In that condition, and while In that hopeless state, he prayed. Then a ray of light came upon him and as he prayed God to guide him aright, in that light be understood and realized the truth of the words of the text, if he never understood them before nor after, wherefore those words in their true significance were such a comfort to him. It is a truth understood by all those who are guided by the Spirit of God. They can, in that moment, when the revealing flash is directed upon them, comprehend the meaning of that which is hidden at other times. : Then they can give expression to the truths and to the power of God. ' David saw that the Lord was with him; he saw that though he passed through these or deals, that the rod and staff of the Lord sustained and comforted him; he recognized in that condition the hand of affliction as the same that adjusted the comforting Bhades; and If any of you watch the processes of varied trials closely, yon will appreciate the fact that really you are afflicted for the purpose of bringing out the innate powers of your soul: of brinzine the heart and purse so wide as to give the dead spirit into activity;' and pnrity and pro minister who uerformed the marriage motlon result from this; and by the compelling AT -. . ; G Wlk I Li IA ceremony twenty-five cents. Sunday World. A writer in the Chicago Tribune shows that in the wheat belt of the west and northwest the crop prospects are poor and farm work generally backward, on the average, twenty to thirty days later than last year. He says: "In northern Ohio very little wheat was killed during the winter; in southern Ohio 25 to 30 per cent was killed; in Indiana 1U to 4U per cent was killed; in Illinois 25 to 50 percent; in northern Kentucky the plant is growing slowly, while in southern Kentucky a slight improvement is noted; in Tennessee 25 per cent was winter killed; in Missouri the condition is very spotted, ranging from good to poor; in Kansas the condition is fair. As to the outlook for oats, it is noted that the ground is wet, that the progress of seeding is very slow with the season twenty days lata" ' to the system. This fluid is drawn from the whole universe. It courses through the nerves of nature and the nerves of man. Whenever it is detached, life is gone; the spirit has taken its flight; but It is attached again to that source whither you are destined to go as citizens There is no standing still in me. Lite is con. tinuous. There is no stop, only long enough to detach the current from the old and attach again to the new. Thus this new birth is affected. Therefore, death is an orderly step in life. It is one of the soul's grandest and most tachment and attachment of these lines and wires running from your being to the beings of those of your friends who have gone on, communication with your friends would be impos sible; for remember, that when they detach the one particular current, it must be attached again to the sources of nature in the other worlds ia order that they may live there, as they have lived here, In perfect naturalness of form. And remember, right here, that life's pleasures and enjoyments and the happiness of heaven, con&st in the uniting of those who are separated by death, in perfect naturalness of association.- If it were not for this, heaven itself, would not be a desirable place to go to. It Is a fact which you will all realize and you wiU rejoice in it more than in anything that is provided for you. But while they detach those currents we refer to, they must be attached again to your risen spirit and soul. Your body is changed so as to become a fit receptacle for your fitness of soul and developed spirit. You are clothed with an immortal body. In accord with that, these currents serve yon and are established with the main currents. Remember, the currents of life and all the other lines and wires, such as those of sympathy. lore and many others, are attached again from those departing tp those remaining, and in this Wise, all worlds are bridged over, connected together, all souls connected together. There. fore, when the whispers of the soul go out, they reverberate upon all these various wires connected with all other souls In the universe. It is in this wise alone that progress is possible Were it not for these methods which the Creator has established through this universal office, it would be impossible to have the promotion of man, in accordance with the promo tion of nature. There would be stagnation, and not that grand progress which is beheld. It Is by means of these wires running from being to being and from world to world, that I God's spirit is able to be everywhere; that i mind is enabled to travel, as it were, from, world to world and associate wherever it will; for spirit Itself, !s dependent for its locomotion and means of admittance into the brain of man, upon these very wires and these currents sys tematlcally established and, assigned by the creative lords. - t -:i . Therefore, we would say to you, mourn not so mnch when your friends go thither. They will return again. This thought should rejoice every human creature. . Death is not to be feared, for it is not borne fathomless dreary beyond the world's confines. Nay; aU worlds, as we have said, are connected by these currents and lines. These are roads that can be travelled by those who have gone on before you, and it is thus your friends return from their heavenly homes. " It is a pleasant thought for the people of earth the possibility of a perfect naturalness in the-' life beyond; a recognition and natural associa tion with those whom they hold dear. While they are thus separated, they are not gone in fact. Nay; they return, and if you hut place yourselves in a condition for receiving the higher light and truth, yon can comprehend the return of your beloved friends. If you would cultivate more 'spirituality, yon would all be able to see your returning friends in proper naturalness of form, for they do come. They cannot return in form like this mortal body, because this form Is based, on the elements of earth and made up. of substances suiting the indwelling spirit, in a way which all physicians can analyze. Yon cannot behold them with these natural eyes; but you ean behold them as soon as yon are of greater weight in developed spirituality than in gross matter. Whenever your spiritual senses become awakened in accordance with the will of the Supreme, yonr intuitive consciousness will receive the whispers from yonr friends, and you may be sure of the fact, that yon need not yonr brother or sister in Christ to tell you that yonr friends are with you. Ton will know it of yonr own consciousness, as that Is the law. ' The law is written in your own organic con stitution and on the organism of the entire race, by the pure Spirit of God in his universal office. Yon will understand for yourselves and be alaw unto yourselves, and you will thus know your friends aright. ' You will know that in right doing exists your salvation, for the Saviour exerts all His power to lead you In the right way. The Saviour works in the universal office for that purpose. He governs and. directs these currents and reveals His saving power because He could not in any other way have realized perfectness for the creatures of His creation, or have brought them to fitness for an acceptance by God in the specified time. He could not otherwise save them all, and. the plan calls for the preservation of all. He will do away with all those dreary places to which have been eon- signed those who dwelt here in' sin and wrong doing. . There are such' places in the other worlds, but they are for the purpose ol repentance for those who did wrong to their brother man on earth, that they may there atone for their offences, simply as you take your criminals and place them in houses of detention and penitentiaries; but these are not dreary places, they are simply a condition, as we have described them a con dition which of necessity is around . them till they have atoned for their offences. And while they are atoning for their offences and all their errors, they draw from their surroundings and other sources, by aid of the kind angels who have supervision over them, those forces and substances necessary for their future being, by which means they are regenerated and fitted to enter the new sphere and be brought up to that degree of fitness acceptable to Supreme decree Such is the Order of things in the universe, adjt tofirily$raad, -"i'A When you look about you and behold the de velopment of -form and structure; and then when yon look back to the remote past and see how man in his primary state, could not com prehend how God provided aU these grand things for him, and when yon look upon the dreary pictures painted upon the canvas of the artists of old, we gaze upon them with wonder and are astonished to find that the human race bas been brought to its present standard; that it has acquired that development and intelli gence which we see around us to-day. We wonder again that they are not more crude. rather than that they are not more advanced. It was necessary for Jesus to come and bring life and immortality to man to show that he was of a superior race and sanctity, and that humanity was born In sin and ignorance. Why aU this outpouring of the spirit? Why all this support required and drafted from heaven for the benefit of mankind? Simply be eause there wasexclusiveness; because it Is re quired In order to fit man for dwelling with the angels of heaven. If it were not for this power prevailing In the spirits; if there were not this susceptibility on the part of men to the admission of truth, they would drift backward ip the scale and as guilty mortals, in their selfishness, only serve God In their narrow way, that would exclude them from participation in the joys of those who are designated as the faithful. They would be cast out into hell prepared for such and for 'the Devil's angels; but it is folly to think of such things in this age. There are no hells of that kind, generally taught at this time, throughout the world. If you wish to analyze hell properly, go to the dens of vice in your world and you will find it there in a greater degree and more degrading, and more woe-bringing, than you wiU ever find in the world beyond. You have it all here in your own world. Heaven and hell are conditions, and if yon are content with what is your own; if you are content to act weU your part In the Bphere as signed to you; to serve God and humanity well in your position, heaven is with you; and while you are faithful in these small trusts, you are becoming fitted to receive still more and to have greater pleasures, dominions, wealth and power in the world beyond. But again we would say, that if it were not so, that those who live here are destined, to draw from the Infinite source of life, for the purpose of becoming more spiritualized; that these manifestations are for the purpose of giving a nearer insight into that higher life; that this new internal development and growth is not ended by death; that they are again renewed to life and natural association, then what would heaven be? What would heaven he, considered as the prevailing idea has made it in centuries past? Then think of it as cognized in after days. All people know, or should know, that these corporal substances are so constituted that they cannot be taken up to the other world, though many have claimed it. Therefore, It is made stationary; and those who think in this day, that these bodies wiU sometime or other be resurrected, and that in the meantime they are dust, may disabuse their minds of the thought. What must their idea of heaven be? Could we speak of heaven as a world of light? Could we represent it as an exact place to which yon are striving to go? Who would receive you, if all your friends were shadows or ghosts? Do they know what they are speaking of when they talk thus? A ghost is not flesh or blood; a ghost is not a perfect being. A ghost is, then, that which has been evolved from the body of the dead soul, tissues and spirit, not matured or clothed with an immortal body shadows of in telligence and light only phantom pictures. Would heaven be a glorious place, if inhabited by such? Could they receive you? Could you have a glorious reception? Could you enjoy the splendors and wealth that adorns those worlds, if you could not meet your friends in perfect naturalness of form, and in such naturalness. union and association of life, enjoy the splendors in that world of many mansions which are there and are ever ready and prepared for all who go there? The people in the worlds beyond earth, are seen as you are on earth, in forms like yours They do not have to work and toil first to bring to themselves things of comfort, a house a home and the necessaries of life. These are all prepared and waiting. Your title to an inheritance above, is within you. It is verily your organic constitution, in and upon which the organic law is engrafted That is your title to a home in heaven; that Is the basis of your right to be received C and therefore, yon are so to work, that you your place weU; and whatever is mapped , you to do, that you mus t do. Do weU, that which comes within yourst " Serve God and humanity dally and hourly,. til you are caUed upon by death, to hicfcpt ' vice. It Is your duty to let yonr sympat" out to mankind. ' On all these subjects-there Is so much to i that we are sometimes confused by the 9 whelming pressure of the many thwUa ( come crowding upon us; and we are at a what to say first, j, But it Is enjoined upon us to speak Li connection, on the subject of oar 6av ' death and resurrection, because It was, in Instances, different from those of the people. They are now ready to receive it. When you look about you and view the snf - ferings of the people; when you hear the cries rise from the sad and afflicted, you feel inclined - to say, "Well, then, if there is a special process .-of death, and it is but a single process; and all , who die, pass through that same process; why Is It that death comes in so many ways? Why is it that some are permitted to pass through that change in a twinkling, while it is for others . to suffer so long and in so many ways? Well, there are causes for all these effectsv First, it is required in this universe thai a v. proper analysis be had of all correlative lifs, caUed causes and effects, consequently there-must be established a variety even in death, a there is variety in spirit and matter; and a ' they are differently centred In the entities. ' Secondly, it Is very necessary for those who are : suffering, for they, in that wise, become perfected. That is simply preparatory to the pro- . cess of death, it has nothing to do with death itself, for the latter is not painful. . There is no suffbring connected with the process of death, ' when you are ready for that process. These skilled angels of death are very tender. They are messengers of peace and mercy; and they , are very tender in their work. They comej v quickly and understand weU what they are to ' do. They detach these currents and attack 1 them again without pain to the one who la passing through the process. But it is prior to that time that the pain comes. It is the pre pa- . ration that makes the suffering. But why is there so much preparation? Sim ply because there is so much system deflcieaey , in the people. When you look about you a We. do, you behold the causes and effects; and in ' ; most all cases it is due to hatred and entangle- " ments for which the people suffer; and also to 1 debility of being. In that case, they cannot draw through the prepared channels, their system support, consequently, they must be reduced to suffering, or they wonld not be fit to be presented before God their Creator. Therefore, this process death pain, suffering and '" aU those things are required to help you to . make up this system deficiency. They are simply for that. , . There is so much ill resulting from the crude: forces playing upon the people; it is the work: - which the Saviour came to do, namely; te effect ' the release and redemption of His people from . the bondage of crude force. By reason of the constant interchange which - is due to these currents going to and fro, coursing through nature and man alike, the regener- . ation of earth and man is continually going on . and you are raised in the scale of existence; yon are becoming better and purer, and are mounting to higher grounds; and the time ia not very far distant when man will stand on his God-assisued summit and be able to look ' down upon ail these dreary places which are now bridged over; and he will be able to govern himself better, and so provide against 111 effects from causes which hitherto he did not understand. And now, having said this much, we would Continued on Eighth Pag4.
