Biographical sketch: Charles W i l l i s Reeder was born in Hartford,
Ohio, on June 1 0 , 1855. He received a degree in medicine from
Western Reserve University in 1880 and set up a p r a c t i c e in
Portsmouth, Ohio. Reeder married Emma Cornelia Wells on February
20, 1884, and died i n Portsmouth, Ohio, of typhoid fever on
September 18, 1 8 9 1 .

Scope and content: The Charles W i l l i s Reeder Papers date from
ca. 1890 and occupy one- quarter cubic f o o t . The papers c o n s i s t
o f a 351 page holograph book manuscript e n t i t l e d , Nerriam - the
Friend of Old John Brown - A Romance of Peace and War, by Charles
W i l l i s Reeder. The novel is a f i c t i t i o u s account of the l i f e of
Lieutenant Frank Merriam, during the American Civil War
