Boggs
was
born
June
8th
,
1928
to
Willie
and
Rosa
Boggs
in
Port
Clinton
,
Ohio
. He
became
a
gospel
composer
and
singer
who
made
his
first
appearance
at
age
eleven
at the
Second
Baptist
Church
in
Sandusky
,
Ohio
in
1938
.
Boggs
had an
irreversible
form
of
glaucoma
and by
age
13
was
completely
blind
. His
mother
ensured
that he
received
musical
tutoring
,
including
piano
lessons
with
Connie
Babcock
of
Port
Clinton
,
Ohio
.
Boggs
travelled
extensively
with
Warner
Buxton
and/or
singers
from his
home
church
, the
Gypsum
Tabernacle
, of
which
he
became
the
pastor
after
his
ordination
in
1972
. He
helped
to
establish
the
Port
Clinton
,
Ohio
chapter
of the
NAACP
.
