Jos. Bensclioten.
On Monday last at 1:30, at the
home of Vincent Gill, funeral services
were held for Joseph Withellow Ben¬
schoten who passed away on Friday
April 26th at the age of seventy-sev¬
en years and one month.
Mr. Benschoten's health had been
gradually failing- for the past three
years, and .death followed an acute
illness of several days. ^-3^/f^'f
Rev. L. A. Ensley conducted a short
service at the home, after which rela¬
tives and friends drove to Oak Grove
Cemetery at Bowling Green where in¬
terment was made.
J. W- Bensclioten was born on Mar.
26, 4852, at Huron, Erie County, Ohio,
|and moved with his parents to Grand
Rapids in Wood county about a year
later. For the past two years Mr. and
■Mrs. Bensclioten 'have lived at Port
Clinton returning- to this state after
ten years spent on their farm near
Richmond, Va. Prior to that time
the1 family home was at Bowling
. Green where for thirty years, Mr. Ben¬
sclioten was engeged in the insurance
and real estate business. He became
a member of the Methodist church
when a young man, and at the time
of his death was affiliated with the
M. E. church at Port Clinton.
In 18 91, Mr. Benschoten was unit¬
ed in marriage to Miss Caroline L.
Alexander of this place and a daugh¬
ter of David Alexander of Marblehead
one of the pioneers of Ottawa coun¬
ty. ' She and two daughters. Miss
Josephine Benschoten of New York
City and Mrs. James L. Young of
Bridgeport Conn., survive. Curtis E.
Benschoten of West Point, Va., is a
brother.
