Henry Avers
Henry Ave"rs 60. Washington, D. C, a former Elmore resident, died in that city Sunday.
His remains arrived in Elmore Tuesday morning and services were held from the Sabroske & Myers* Funeral Home Wednes¬ day afternoon. Burial was made in Udiod Cemetery.
Besides his wife, Helen, he is survived brvaTTnutLiri, ^4ward Avers of Elmore, two sisters, Mrs Clarence Renner and Miss \ Emma Avers, both of Monroe, Mieh.
Mr, Avers was second in com¬ mand of the U. S. Coast and Geodetic Survey, He was a particular friend of Com. Rich¬ ard Byrd, the explorer, and Mr. Byrd named a mountain after Mr. Avers at Little American, Mt. Avers. Mr. Avers was one of a committee of three who checked Mr. Byrd's figures on bis first trip to the south pole.
