Effie Frederioka ."Miller was born April 24, 1871, at 'Gypsum Ohio, the daughter of Frederick H. and Minnie Miller. While child she moved with her parents to a farm northeast of Oak Har¬ bor, on what is now Bier Road.
On October 24, 1894 she" was married to George Appleg lived for a time a short north of Oak Harbor. About 18 they moved to Oak Harbor, occu /pying a small house which was lo¬ cated on Ottawa Street, where the St. John's Lutheran Parish House now stands. They latter purchas¬ ed a home on Oak Street, where ¦she lived until about one year ago. Her husband passed away in 1939.
(She had been in failing health for the past few years. Aibout a year ago she suffered a fractur¬ ed hip, following which it became necessary for her to go to live with her daughter, Mrs. Carl Gerdes, in Detroit, Michigan. She ^passed away there on October 24, 3-951, at the age of eighty years and six months. She was the last surviving member of the Freder¬ ick H. Smith-fmiry.
In her youth she was confirmed in the St. John's Lutheran Church an Oak Harbor, having been haip- tized in that church by the. Rev. Mr. Bauch. While she never be¬ came a member of the Methodist Church, she had been an active workr there for many years, and was a member of the Woman's Society of Christian •Service in that church.
Surviving mem/bers of her fam¬ ily are; two daughters, Mrs. Carl Gerdes of Detroit, and Miss Grace Applegate of Oak Harbor; two jgrandchildren, Mrs. Vernell Miller of Oak Harbor, and George Gerdes 'With the United States Air Force iir Munich.
