111 Health and Severe Pains
Given as Cause of Deed
Last rites for A. C. Damschro¬
der, 58, are being held in' his
Kome on Huron street at 2:30 o'¬
clock this (Thursday) afternoon,
December 27. Rev. D. Worth-
man of St. Paul's M. E. church
officiates and interment is to be
in Union cemetery.
Mr. Damschroder had not been
well for some time, vet his dis~
ability had not incapacitated him
for daily work at the store and;
but few were aware of his illness
Howeyer, about three weeks or
more ago he suffered a bron¬
chial condition which compelled
his confinement at home for more ;
than two weeks. Withal, he had ■
| gradually become despondent over j
1 his condition and, with pain and i
j anxiety apparently reaching an
unbearable climax on Christmas
j Day, he sought to end it all in
1 death. Fully dressed, he had!
I come down stairs shortly after 9!
I o'clock, Christmas morning, his
j wife busily engaged in prepara¬
tion of a Chistmas dinner to
which a few relatives had been
; invited. Suddenly a shot was!
; heard and Mr. Damschroder was
! found sitting in a chair in the
| down-stairs bedroom, dead from
I a shot in thehead with his revolv¬

August C. Damschroder one of j
9 children, was born in Elmore, a i
son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles fl. j
Damschroder. He was educat¬
ed in the local schools and was
graduated here in the class of
1894. For many years he has:
been connected with the Dam¬
schroder Department store here, !
I which was founded bv bis father, !
| a pioneer merchant, 60 years or;
more ago; and for more than ten j
3rears has been sole owner and j
proprietor of the store, one of the j
oldest in the county. He was aj
member of Portage Lodge Ma-1
sons here, and of Zenobia Shrine, !
Toledo; the local lodge officiating j
at the burial.
Mr. Damschroder is survived
by his wife, Dora Magsig Dam-
