Cream-colored cotton T-shirt featuring the name and image of lesbian comedian Suzanne Westenhoefer on the front with the quotation: "Nothing in my closet but my clothes." The shirt is signed by Westenhoefer, "To Tom & Mike, the huge fags - OOM! Feed Me!! Lots of love and pride! '98 Sze Woo." The inscription is to Tom Grote and Michael Caven, co-owners of the restaurant Out on Main in Columbus, Ohio. The T-shirt is an adult size large and dates from approximately 1998. Suzanne Westenhoefer is a nationally-known lesbian comic who lives part-time in Columbus, Ohio. Out on Main, which opened in 1996, was co-owned by Michael Caven and Tom Grote. It was a well-known destination for the gay community in Columbus, but was also praised for the cuisine. The owners donated a portion of the proceeds from the restaurant to organizations like Stonewall Columbus, Kaleidoscope Youth Group, Project Open Hand, Lesbian Health News and the Ohio Human Rights Bar Association. The restaurant closed on March 30, 2002. Tom Grote donated this T-shirt to the Ohio History Connection (then the Ohio Historical Society) in 2008. |
