Carte de visite of General Lovell H. Rousseau, who served in the Union Army during the Civil War. As a Kentucky legislator, originally from Stanford, Kentucky, Rousseau fought successfully to keep Kentucky seceding. After Kentucky officially decided to remain neutral, Rousseau resigned and raised two regiments of Kentuckians across the Ohio River in Indiana. These regiments became known as the "Louisville Legion" and prevented the capture of Louisville by Confederate forces.
