Description |
Twin retarding conveyors built by the Jeffrey Manufacturing Company of Columbus, Ohio at the Reliance Coal and Coke Company, Gomar, Kentucky, 1923. The tipple at the bottom of the hill held coal that was loaded onto railroad coal cars. The building at the top of the hill, the head house, was connected to the tipple at the bottom by a retarding conveyor. A retarding conveyor slowed the coal as it slid downhill in a trough toward the tipple, reducing breakage of the lump coal. |
