Description	This lithograph shows Barnesville, Ohio in 1899. By this year, the town had two glass factories, a box factory, several mills, and the Watt Mining Car Company. A new city hall was constructed a year before this lithograph was published and selected streets had been paved earlier in the decade. This lithograph measures 27.5 by 18 inches (69.85 by 45.72 cm). Barnesville was established in 1808 by James Barnes, a Quaker from Maryland. He owned a flouring mill and a woolen factory, and engaged in the tobacco trade. Barnesville and the surrounding areas were settled largely by Quakers from Maryland, Pennsylvania, and North Carolina. During the nineteenth century, the area was known for its glass works and its strawberry industry.
