McCreight
Avenue
. The
club
boasted

the
Springfield
Country

Company
was
formed
. The
company's
first
task
was to
find
a
new
location
. They
purchased
what was

a
large
barn
could
be
converted
to that
purpose
. The
manor
house
was then
used
as a
guest
house
until
it
was
dismantled
to
make
room
for a
swimming
pool
in the
early
1930s
. The
original
clubhouse
was
destroyed
by
fire
on
May
11
,
1922
.
Two
years
later
, on
May
13
,
1924
, the
new
clubhouse
pictured
here was
opened
. The
eighteen-hole
golf
course
was
started
in
1921
.
Additional
land
for the
course
was
purchased
from
J
.
B
.
Cartmell's
Signal
Hill
Farm
.
It
was
designed
by
Donald
Ross
for a
fee
of
$5,000
and was
completed
in
1922
. The
original
fees
established
for
Club
membership
in
1906
were
$10.00
for
men
and
$5.00
for
women
.
Annual
dues
were
set
at
$15.00
for
men
and
$10.00
for
women
.
Children
younger
than
18
were
allowed
in for
free
. In
1991
the
initiation
fee
was
$6,000
for a
family
with
monthly
dues
of
over
$150
. This
