photograph
,
is
located
at the
northwest
corner
of
Spring

High
streets
in
Springfield
,
Ohio
. The

"
William

world
at the
time
.
Only
the
Krupp
factory

Germany
was
larger
.
Unfortunately
, he also
co-signed
a
loan

. The
friend
, the

. This was the

Springfield

,
leaving
2,000
people
out
of
work
. In
1927
, the

occupied
the
old
Lagonda
Club
Building
pictured

According
to an
1895
article
that
appeared
in the
Springfield
Republic-Times
, the
club
was
conceived
in
1892
by a
number
of '
prominent
young
men
who
felt
that
Springfield
must
have a
genuinely
metropolitan
club
and
clubhouse.
" The
clubhouse
opened
on
November
7
,
1895
with
about
400
people
in
attendance
. Its
design
is
credited
to
Frank
Mills
Andrews
(1867-1948)
of the
Dayton
,
Ohio
architectural
firm
of
Williams
and
Andrews
. The
four-story
French
Renaissance
building
contained
a
grand
reception
hall
,
library
,
lounges
,
reception
rooms
for
ladies
,
cafe
,
dining
room
,
buffet
,
restaurant
,

,

rooms
,
billiard
rooms
,
smoking
rooms
,
whist
rooms
, a

, and a
40-by-63

.
Many
of the
rooms
were
torn
out
by the
chamber
and the
building
was
repartitioned
for
office
use
. The
building
was
placed
on the
National

of
Historic
Places
in
1975
. This
