Description	Algonquin Mill is located in the village of Petersburg, which was formerly called Algonquin, about four miles south of Carrollton. George Tope, a Pennsylvania native who settled in Carroll County around 1800, built the water-powered gristmill around 1826 to grind wheat, corn, and buckwheat into flour or meal. The three-story building has a stone foundation and siding of yellow poplar. William Cory bought the mill in the early 1890s, installed a steam engine and made other improvements that increased productivity. The mill closed in 1938 and is now maintained by the Carroll County Historical Society.
