Through

a

staple
. He
advertised

Logan
County
benefited
from

fortune
.
According
to
local
legend
, he was
unable
to
borrow
a
book
as a
child
because
he was
too
poor
.
Determined
to
establish
a
place
where
all
children
would have
easy
access
to
books
, he
established
a
library
in
Zanesfield
in
1914
. He also
established
the
Sloan
Foundation
that
still
provides
equipment
for the
Bellefontaine
City
Schools
and the
Ohio
Hi-Point
Career
Center
.
Warren
Cushman
(1845-1926)
was a
portrait
and
landscape
painter
,
sculptor
,
musician
, and
photographer
.

in
Woodstock
,
Champaign
County
,
Ohio
,
Cushman
served
as a
bugler
in the
134
Ohio
Volunteer
Infantry
(O.V.I.)
during
the
Civil
War
. He
worked
in his
family's
dry-goods
store
in
Woodstock
until
1875
,
when
he
moved
to
Washington
D.C
. to
study
at the
Corcoran
Gallery
of
Art
. In
1887
,
Cushman
patented
a
device
for
retouching
photographs
. He
moved
to
Logan

to
live
with his
son
before
his
death
in
1926
.
