women's
literary
clubs
established
in
Findlay
in the
1890s
. The
Coterie
started
in
1895
among
the
Methodists
, with
twenty-nine
charter
members
. The
clubs
provided
women
of
leisure
both
an
intellectual
and
social
outlet
. This
club
had
meetings
to
discuss
literary
and
current
event
topics
. In the

Other
groups
that
started
in this
time
period
include
the
20th
Century
Club
in
1900
and the
Art
Study
Club
and
Sunshine
Society
in
1901
.
While
the
federation
disbanded
in
1987
,
several
of the
clubs
are
still
in
existence
and
celebrated
their
100th
anniversaries
in the
1990s
.
