This
photograph
is
of the
Anna
Dean
Farm
Flour
Mill
,
which
stood
on the
west
side
of the
farm
in
Barberton
,
Ohio
. The
painting
on the
side
of the
mill
advertised
all
the
different
farm
products
that were
sold
. The
flour
mill
eventually
became
one
of the
buildings
occupied
by
Coventry
Ware
Inc.
,
who
used
it
in the
manufacture
of its
products
.
It
was then
purchased
by the
Babcock
&
Wilcox
Co.
,
along
with the
adjoining
land
, to be
used
for the
construction
of their
new
office
building
on
Van
Buren
Avenue
. The
mill
was
demolished
in
1960
to
allow
for an
expanded
parking
facility
at
Babcock
&
Wilcox's
new
office
building
. The
photograph
measures
7.75
"
x
9.5
"

cm)
.
Ohio
Columbus
Barber
was
born
in
1841
and was the
town
founder
of
Barberton
,
Ohio
. He was
president
of
Barber's
Diamond
Match
Company
factory
,
which
he
retired
from in
1909
. At then
created
the
3,500-acre
Anna
Dean
Farm
. In
addition
to the
flour
mill
, the
estate
included
an
elaborate
fifty-two
room
French
Renaissance
Revival
style
mansion
,
enormous
castle-like
barns
,
13
acres
of
greenhouses
, a
dairy
processing
plant
,
power
houses
, a
farm
office
, and a
hotel
to
house
farm
employees
.
When
O.C
.
Barber
died
in
1920
he had
planned
to
give
Anna
Dean
Farm
to
Western
Reserve
University
,
which
would
continue
the
farm
experiment
as an
agricultural
school
.
Due
to
financial
difficulties
,
however
, the
university
was not
able
to
support
an
agricultural
school
, and the
farm
was
shut
down
.
It
was
sold
to the
A.O
.
Austin
family
in
1926
. The
family
lived
in the
mansion
until
1964
,
when
A.O
.
Austin
died
. The
mansion
was
demolished
in
1965
.
