me of a small book entitled "From Dixie to Canada," which a friend gave me to read a short time ago. Its author is H. V. Johnson, Orwell, Ohio. He does not relate any work¬ ings of the Underground in Lawrence County, nor any in Mercer County, except John Young's goings of Indian Run. He speaks of him first, as a slaveholder in the James Valley of Virginia, and desiring to free his slaves came to Mercer County, Pennsylvania, purchased an extensive tract of valuable land for himself and gave his slaves their freedom papers, but thej insisted, on going with Massa ©tc. Now John Y^xing never was a slaveholder; his father may have been. I well remember Yellow Robert and . his mother--all the colored people that I ever saw at Mr. Young's. Yellow Robert was a shoemaker and made shoes for my family sometim.es, but these friends are all dead. There was another route by Daria Young's, three miles west of New Castle, then north by the Wright»s, near New Bedford, Lawrence County, of which I hope to learn mor© •
With this will close for the present.
