The Logan County Digital Collection is a collaboration between the Logan County District Libraries, the Logan County Historical Society and the Ohio Historical Society, and is made possible by an LSTA grant administered by the NORWELD Regional Library System.

Logan County's history is the one-time home of more than a dozen Indian villages whose residents played influential roles in the relationship and conflicts between the Indians and whites and the settlement of Ohio.
Logan County's history is agriculture. From the earliest settlement to the present the county's primary economic and cultural force has been farming. The crops reaped from local farms are one of Logan County's contributions to our country.
Logan County's history is the railroad. The first train came through the area in 1847. By 1904, one in four people employed in the county worked for the railroad. The Big Four Railroad Roundhouse in Bellefontaine was one of the company's largest repair centers between New York and St. Louis. The railroad brought growth to Logan County's economy and its population. The railroad provided the means for Logan County to export its farm and industrial goods to the rest of the nation.
Logan County's history is industry. The Logan County area has been a significant industrial center for over a century. From A.J. Miller hearses and ambulances that were made in Bellefontaine and shipped all over the world, to goods produced by Merchants Industries, to the automobiles of Honda of America, Logan County industries have supplied consumers with what they need.
Logan County's history is its famous sons and daughters. It is Blue Jacket who established his town where Bellefontaine is today. It is Isaac Zane and Princess Myeerah who helped bridge the cultural and political gap between the Indians and the early settlers. It is Simon Kenton, Dr. Earl Sloan, the Mills Brothers and many others who once called Logan County home and have played a role in our nation's history and culture.
We hope these photographs will give a little better understanding of some of these and other fascinating aspects of Logan County's rich and interesting history.
