In
1917
City
and
Commerce
Club
officials
made
plans
to have
various
sections
of the
canal
that
ran
through
the
city
of
Defiance
filled
in
rather
than
putting
in
new
bridges
across
the
waterway.
The
bridge
at
Fourth
Street
was the
first
one
demolished
and
filled
in with
dirt.
