To date 70 archives, universities, libraries, museums and historical societies from all around Ohio are participating in the Ohio Memory Project, a cooperative effort to create a digital scrapbook of Ohio's history for the celebration of the bicentennial in 2003. For more information on Ohio Memory and how your institution can participate, please visit the Ohio Memory web site or contact us directly.
Each month we focus on a subject category that is underrepresented in the Ohio Memory Scrapbook. For June's category of the month, we have decided to focus on Ohio's People. This topic area includes Native American Ohioans, Ohio Women, African American Ohioans and Immigration and Ethnic Heritage. For a complete description of the categories, please see http://www.ohiomemory.org/subjectcategories.html
These categories are currently underrepresented in the Ohio Memory Scrapbook. Submissions might include photographs, documents, and artifacts relating to significant Ohio People, as well as the daily lives of Ohioans. Make sure that the people from your community are represented in the Ohio Memory Scrapbook!
Now that three submissions deadlines have passed, we are identifying areas in which we need more submissions. To view a chart of underrepresented subject categories, see the Ohio Memory News section on the web site, http://www.ohiomemory.org We are also happy to recommend specific subjects or people from your area that we would like to include in the scrapbook.
There are only two more deadlines planned at this point. The next submission deadline is August 15, but materials are evaluated in the order which they are received. We are still only accepting submissions from before 1903. Of course, you are welcome to submit materials relating to any of the subject categories. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or would like to discuss your submission ideas.
